Heat-treated probiotic LFK

LFK is a heat-treated probioticl material whose active components are extracted from Enterococcus faecalis FK-23 by enzyme digestion. Patents have been granted on LFK.

LFK (Heat-treated probiotic FK-23 extracts)

1. Trait

LFK is heat-treated probiotic extracts that is derived from enzymatic digestion of pure-cultivated Enterococcus faecalis FK-23. LFK as a food material contains over 9.0% of RNA (ribonucleic acid). Any extending agents are not included in this material (Egg-derived components are used as a part of raw materials).

2. Quality Standards

Standard item Standard value Test method
Dry weight percentage ≦ 5.0% Atomospheric heat dry
RNA (Nucleic acid) ≧ 9.0% Orcinol method
Heavy metal (Pb) ≦ 20ppm Colorimetric method with sodium sulfate
General bacteria count ≦ 3000 cells/g Standard agar plate culture method
Coliform Negative BGLB method
Fungi count ≦ 300 cells/g Petrifilm method

3. Examples of Food Labels

Probiotic, Heat-treated probiotic powder, Heat-treated probiotic, Heat-treated probiotic extracts, etc.
Notice: based on the Food Sanitation Law, it needs to specify the allergenic ingredient (egg).

Product Trait

1. About Enterococcus faecalis

Enterococcus faecalis is a regular component of the intestinal flora in healthy young adults. It is known that Enterococcus faecalis is deeply involved in maintaining human health.

Enterococcus faecalis

2. About LFK

LFK is enzyme-digested extracts from Enterococcus faecalis FK-23 that was screened at Nichinichi pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. For efficient effect on human body, LFK is processed to extract active components from inside bacterial cells.

3. Function of LFK

Active components in bacterial cells control functions in human body. Various values, which are not observed in live bacteria, are expected in LFK.

Patent [1] Anti-hypertensive effect Work on the blood vessel wall and dilate the blood vessel
Patent [2] Anti-allergic effect Improve immediate allergies such as hay fever and asthmatic symptoms
Patent [3] Cosmetic effect Improve brandy and pimpled face, and whiten the skin (Anti-pigmentation)
[4] Calming effect of intestinal disorders Increase the number of probiotic bacteria in intestinal tract and maintain good intestinal condition
[5] Combined effect with kampo medicine Enhance the effect of kampo medicine by the combined use

4. Feature of LFK

  • Contain abundant bacterial RNA (over 9.0%)
  • Original treating method (Granted patent)
  • Stable physicochemically
  • Stable preservation (Quality guarantee for two years)
  • Light colored powder
  • Combined use with medicines is possible

5. Safety of LFK

  • In the acute and subacute toxicity test using mice at high dose of LFK (2,000 mg/kg), no abnormality was observed. For human, usual intake is about 20?50 mg/kg.
  • In the chronic toxicity test using rats, no abnormality was observed.
  • In clinical test in healthy adults (intake of 1 g LFK/day for three months), no abnormality was observed on all general analyses such as blood pressure, biochemical test of blood, questionnaire and so on.
  • Enterococcus faecalis FK-23 is confirmed to be safe probiotic bacteria because of the absence of multidrug resistance genes (VRE; vanC-1, vanC-2, and vanC-3).

6. Application of LFK to health foods and the references

Research on LFK was published to academic journals, presented to academic societies, and granted patents. LFK is able to be utilized for various purposes as health food materials not only for human but also for pets, as described below.
